What is Hope?

Hope is the belief that the future will be better, and you have the power to make it happen. This is different from a wish. With hope, we use our mind AND our strength. Hope is an action word. For example, you might say, “I hope it’s sunny today.” But you don’t have any control over the weather. This would be a wish. But if you say, “I hope to ride my bicycle this evening,” this is hope because you have power over your actions to ride your bicycle. Hope is something you can achieve.

 
 
 
 

Hope requires three things: goals, pathways, and willpower. Setting a goal is the first step. You need to have a goal that you want to achieve. In order to meet that goal, you need pathways and willpower. Pathways are the road map you will follow to meet your goal. And willpower is the motivation to follow the road map to your goal. Pathways and willpower work together so that you can reach your goal.
